I was watching an episode of "Better Late Than Never" - side note - it is hilarious if you haven't seen it, Anyway, in the episode I watched, they were traveling through Morocco. Although, I've never been to Morocco, I've always loved the patterns in the artwork and decor that I have seen with Moroccan influence. While watching this episode, I noticed all the amazing ways they incorporate tiles into their decor and thought, how can I infuse some of those colors, patterns, and overall fun yet crisp look into some of my designs. So here are the top 5 ways I am currently thinking of using tiles. 1. CoastersUsing tiles for coasters is a great way to easily personalize your space. You can get some tiles from your local hardware store with your favorite pattern, peruse the online emporium of Wayfair Accent tiles (so many good ones to choose from) or help yourself to a plain set and grab some spray paint or paint brushes and customize with unique patterns or inspirational sayings that make you smile each time you use them. 2. Patio Table TopI've found that outdoor furniture tends to look very plain. Sure you can add accent pillows and rugs to your outdoor space, but I grew up in Seattle... not really a good place for pillows and rugs to get rained on every single day. So, to get away from too much neutral (I know I know, most of the time I love neutral), it's great to add interesting features to your outdoor space by tiling your patio table. This is one of the projects on the 2018 list of DIY projects for me, so stay tuned for the results. In the meantime, enjoy these memerizing mosaics from West Elm. 3. Patterned wall artNAVICAN Project - 2017 Incorporating tiles into your wall art is a unique way to add texture and movement to your space. I love framing patterned pieces within a wall gallery or bringing more neutral tiles together to form a pattern along the wall. In the lobby pictured above, we used these fantastic wood hexagon tiles to make a natural flow for the room. 4. Staircase accentRather than have your stairs be just a means to your decor, add them into your overall design. I'm in love with this design from blackband home & design using a whimsical mosaic pattern with a neutral soft color and skipping every other step with a crisp white to add to the space without overwhelming it. It's the perfect blend of adding focal points that guide you from room to room. 5. Fireplace Mantel FaceUsing tiles on the mantle face of a fireplace isn't a new phenomenon, however, traditional decor has left us with large square or rectangular tiles in plain coloring. Although stone faces have been trending, easy to clean tile in unique shapes and muted color dimensions like this HGTV 2018 Dream Home are becoming the new "it" factor in modern living room decor. These small hexagon tiles with hints of grey and white make a light and airy focal point that can easily tie into any decor as your style changes over the years. Hope you guys enjoyed the tile inspo and find the perfect way to add it to your space.
Help keep the inspiration alive with all of us! Do you have a favorite way to use tile? We'd love to hear in the comments!
